Update to Estimated Fringe Benefits Rates for FY 2019 and FY 2020 Sponsored Projects

As an update to the previous announcement regarding estimated fringe benefits rates for FY 2019, rates are now expected to increase in FY 2020 rather than in FY 2019.  The following rates may be used for sponsored project proposals for FY 2019 (unchanged from FY 2018 rates):

  • Faculty with 9-month appointments:  36.3%
  • Staff with KTRS or ORP Retirement and Faculty with Extended Appointments:  36.5%
  • Staff with KERS Retirement:  79.0%
  • Staff with Hazardous Duty Retirement: 44.7%
  • Retirement Transition Program Employees and Previous Retirees (Part-Time): 21.6%
  • Part Time Employees without Benefits:  8.4%
  • Students hired through Student Employment:  0.8%

The following rates are estimated for FY 2020 and should be used in multi-year proposals:

  • Faculty with 9-month appointments:  46.5%
  • Staff with KTRS or ORP Retirement and Faculty with Extended Appointments:  46.5%
  • Staff with KERS Retirement:  109.0%
  • Staff with Hazardous Duty Retirement: 54.7%
  • Retirement Transition Program Employees and Previous Retirees (Part-Time): 31.6%
  • Part Time Employees without Benefits:  8.4%
  • Students hired through Student Employment:  0.8%

All awarded sponsored projects will be charged the final rates, regardless of the rates budgeted.  Budget revisions will be necessary for awards without a sufficient amount of funds allocated to cover benefits costs.

Project directors who expect to receive continuation funding for projects with awards that expire on June 30, 2018 are encouraged to submit documents for internal review as soon as possible.  As a reminder, proposed budgets require University approval prior to being submitted to external agencies.
