University-Funded Scholarship Awards

Eastern Kentucky University, through the Office of Sponsored Programs, provides support for faculty and professional librarians to engage in research, scholarship, and creative activities.  University-Funded Scholarship (UFS) funding is competitively awarded based on the review and recommendations of the University Research Committee (URC).  The URC is an interdisciplinary committee of faculty with representation from all colleges.

The UFS program’s highest funding priority is to provide support for tenure-track faculty in establishing a research program and the basis for future external funding requests.  The second priority is to support faculty who have maintained a productive research program and have continually sought external funding for their research.

UFS awards are intended to support small-scale research that can be completed within a faculty member’s allotted time for scholarship and service.  Funding may be requested to support student workers as research assistants, purchase equipment and supplies needed for the research, and cover travel expenses associated with the research. Faculty may request up to $5,000, and the expected average award amount is $3,000.

The Spring submission deadline is Monday, February 17, 2025, at 4:30 PM. The application system will not be available after 4:30 PM.

Dissemination Support: As funding permits, awards of up to $500 will be made to provide support to faculty who have been funded through the University-Funded Scholarship (UFS) Program for the purpose of disseminating results of their research and/or creative activities.  The Dissemination Support Program is open to faculty who have completed a UFS project within the two-year period preceding the Dissemination Support request submission date.  Support is limited to one conference or page charges for one article during each fiscal year, and matching funds are required.
